What’s On In The Shire This May

Beats, bites and brews - this is your guide on how to manoeuvre through the month

Fior Restaurant, Gymea

Fior Restaurant, Gymea

May is set to be a busy month, and we’re ready to embrace it with everything we’ve got. From new restaurant openings to Sunday sessions, and run clubs, the Shire is booming with things to do and events to visit. So, pull out your diary and get ready to make some plans this month!

Fior Restaurant, Gymea

Reserve A Table At The New Shire Eatery On Everybody’s Lips

From the talented team behind cult-status Jane and Arthur in Surry Hills comes the Shire’s hottest new restaurant opening: Fior. Set to be the meeting place of Italian cool and quintessential Australian charm, Fior’s casual and seasonal dining menu will focus on homegrown ingredients sourced from local suppliers. Enjoy the daily Aperitivo hour from 4:00pm to 5:00pm, and certainly don’t miss the roaming gelato trolley.

Contento Cafe, Cronulla

Check Out The Menu At Contento Cafe

Cronulla’s Contento Cafe is practically a rite of passage for any Shire dweller. Long drawing breakfast enthusiasts, the team here produce the most picture-perfect acai bowls, bacon and egg sambos, burgers, and cups of Campos coffee. Open from 5:00am, if you arrive in time, you’ll catch the sun coming up over South Cronulla beach opposite. Autumn morning perfection.

Concept Track Club

Pick Up A Hobby For Life At Concept Track Club

If you’re always stuck to telling yourself that you’re ‘just not a runner’, you are probably yet to try Concept Track Club. Building a community of like minded individuals with a passion for fitness is the name of the game at this weekly run club. Hosted at 7:00am every Sunday at the Sylvania Waters Athletics Track, it’s the perfect way to pick up a (healthy) new hobby that you’ll want to stick with for life.

Jensens, Kareela

Settle In For A Sunday Session

Long, lazy lunches and live music - we can’t think of a better combo. Every Sunday from 3:00pm until 6:00pm right through to September, Jensens is partnering with Scylla Distilling Co to host the ideal arvo sessions to close off the week, where drinks are happy hour prices and the vibes are high. You can check out the lineup on the Jensens’ website - be sure to book!

Papa J's, Cronulla

Dig In At Papa Js

The people have spoken, and Papa Js has listened. From May 1st, one of the Shire’s most coveted cocktail bars, Papa J’s, are transforming their dining experience into one of big restaurant feels, thanks to head chef, Carl Jensen (of Jensens). Carl is cooking up his favourite dishes in a full al-a-carte menu, giving you more ways to enjoy Papa Js. Serving dinner on Wednesday and Thursday, and lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you can expect an extensive menu featuring the likes of seared scallops, homemade gnocchi and - drum roll, please - espresso martini panna cotta.

Blackwood Cronulla

Bite Into Blackwood’s Brand New Menu

As the leaves turn, so does the menu at Blackwood, one of Cronulla’s most cherished cafes. Expect fresh-as breakfast, brunch and lunch options served in the same sunny exterior and stylish interior you know and love, seven days a week. Our top recommendations include the divine Beef Ragu Pasta, Schnitty Sugo Sambo, Angus Short Rib, zesty Prawn Poke Bowl, The Moroccan, wholesome Roasted Pear & Tahini Porridge and Gypsy Bread, an artful reimagining of French toast.

CC Babcoq cronulla

Keep The Good Times Rolling With A Bottomless Session

The weather may be starting to lose its heat, but the good times never stop in the Shire. If a boozy brunch, lunch or dinner is just what the doctor ordered, stay cosy in one of the many venues offering bottomless bites, espresso martinis, rosé, spritzes and plenty of good times. You can find our exhaustive list of favourites here.

Cronulla Jazz & Blues Festival

Beats, Beers And Good Times At Cronulla Jazz And Blues Festival

At the very end of the month (29th May to 2nd June, to be exact) sits an event that is guaranteed to be music to any jazz-lover’s ears - literally. Cronulla’s very own Jazz and Blues Festival is set to feature 100+ free performances and awards ceremonies accompanied by beer, wine, food and kid-friendly activities over five riff-filled days. The event itself is free, but die-hard fans might like to check out some of the exclusive ticketed events via the website.
