What’s On In The Sutherland Shire This January

Let the holidays live on this month with some of the Shire’s best summer tropes

Hazel Gymea

With the Christmas festivities officially behind us, we’ve officially entered a new month - and more importantly, a new year. While many of us are (sadly) gearing up to return to work, January is still the month of long, warm days that stretch into the evening hours, and there are plenty of ways to make the most of them.

From meal deals to afternoons spent soaking up the sun, here’s what’s on in the Sutherland Shire this January.

Hazel Gymea

Enjoy A Summer Soirée At Hazel

As the summer sun finally sets and stars begin to appear, you’ll find many Shire-siders flocking to Gymea’s new Hazel. Located within Hazelhurst Arts Centre, Hazel is putting on a European affair complete with live music, a signature cocktail and Mediterranean-inspired dishes on Sunday, January 5th, 12th and 19th from 5:00pm. Reservations can be made via hazelgymea.com.

Fred's Providore Cronulla

Get Your Deli Sandwich Fix At Fred’s

Freshly updated deli, butcher and provider of fine food, Fred’s Providore, has officially brought the sandwich cult to Cronulla. We’re talking huge slices of house-made focaccia made-to-order, filled with premium cold-cuts - think pastrami, salami and prosciutto - as well as thick-as slices of mozzarella, deli-style marinated veg and other delightful ingredients. You’ll find us taking one of these bad boys to the beach - or eating it along the way.

Bennys, Cronulla

Pick Up Classic Fish & Chips From Benny’s

Despite being still fairly new to the area, Benny’s has firmly established itself as one of the Shire’s new favourite venues for relaxed, yet sophisticated meals. Nestled upon the bushy Gunnamatta Bay, its location is one-of-a-kind - and can be enjoyed from their balcony seating or experienced takeaway by grabbing some of their seriously talked-about fish and chips and heading down to the water.

Feros

Get A Deal A Day With Feros

The fine people behind Feros Group (The Prince, The Botanical, Engadine Tavern, Highfield, Taren Point Hotel, Ugly Pizza, and Huxleys) clearly believe that January still counts as the silly season, and we’re totally on board with anything that prolongs a holiday vibe. For the entire month, they’re slinging daily deals across their venues, such as pizza value packs, 30% off salads, half-price cocktails, 2 for $35 meals and $5 kids’ meals. Head to their app to discover what’s on offer daily.

Boat Harbour Cronulla

Spend A Day At Boat Harbour

Offering an experience little-found around Sydney, or even Australia, Cronulla’s Boat Harbour is a pristine parcel of coastline where you can drive right along the sand. For $40 per car, you and your favourite people can set up your BBQ conveniently next to your 4WD, fold out your camp chairs and settle in for the day within arm’s reach from the water. Furry friends are welcome, too!

Pack A Picnic

Going out to a fancy restaurant is all well and nice, but there’s also a lot to be said for picking up a selection of your favourite cheese, deli meats and a fresh baguette - and maybe a bottle of wine or two - and heading to one of the Shire’s many beautiful picnic locations. Throw your rug down, spread your goodies on a board, say ‘cheers’ and enjoy the scenery.
