The Shire’s Newest Cinema Experience
The countdown is on for the opening of HOYTS Cronulla
Re-think your usual trip to the movies, because HOYTS is coming to the Shire and they have well and truly revolutionised the cinema experience. After getting the inside scoop, Scout can confirm that HOYTS Cronulla will be unlike anything you’ve seen before. Recliner seating at standard ticket pricing, boutique auditoriums, and a bar and cafe are just the beginning of this immersive cinema experience.
Arties Bar & Cafe
It was only announced this week that HOYTS will be unveiling their Cronulla cinema in November. Like all locals, we were relieved to hear this iconic landmark isn’t going anywhere. Operating since 1928, Cronulla Cinema holds a special place in all of our hearts including that of HOYTS CEO, Damian Keogh.
Damian, a Shire resident himself, recognises the importance of this iconic venue, “It is a great honour for HOYTS to refurbish this historic site that opened in 1928 with a cinema that truly will be world class. It will also help revitalise the local Cronulla dining and entertainment precinct and deliver additional jobs to the area.”
The multi-million-dollar refurbishment will complement the roots and charm of the cinema by blending the local vibe with a standout blockbuster experience. You can forget cramped seats and people’s heads obscuring your view; HOYTS have introduced an exciting array of new features to completely transform the classic cinema experience and we are delighted to share them with you.

Recliner Seating
Firstly, extra-comfy recliners can be found in four of their six cinemas. Boasting extra leg room and wider seating, finally, we can enjoy a cinema experience that doesn’t feel like we’re on a domestic flight! We know what you’re thinking. But the answer is no! These recliner tickets are offered at the SAME standard ticket price. We were shocked too.
In the other two cinemas, you will find a first-to-HOYTS lounge experience. Cronulla is the very first HOYTS cinema to introduce a smaller, more boutique auditorium. Here guests can experience the latest blockbusters in an intimate setting. This option is ideal for date night or a special occasion. Side note: also great if you are known to shed a little tear and don’t want your movie neighbour to see. Hoyts have you covered.
Treat City
In true HOYTS-style, Treat City is a must on every visit. Whether you enjoy maltesers and popcorn or choc tops and candy, you’ve got to treat yo’self here. With unlimited popcorn refills (more details below) we personally think it's a no brainer to add this to your order. Once you’ve got the essentials, kick back in the retro lounge while you wait for your movie to start.
Brand New Retro Lounge
Now onto Artie’s Bar & Cafe. Think gourmet pizza and a fully stocked bar, and yes, all food and drinks can accompany you into the cinema. It’s safe to say this has to be one of our favourite new additions; finally something a bit more suited to the adults. At last, we can enjoy a drink and movie without the inflated price tag.
