The Best Pasta In The Sutherland Shire For A Carb-Fuelled Feast

Buon appetito!

Fior, Gymea

Fior Restaurant, Gymea

Pasta: it’s a ride or die dish, the ultimate comfort and oh-so versatile. From pillowy potato gnocchi and deliciously filled tortellini, to simple classics like egg-based fettuccine and, of course, spaghetti, there’s a lot to love about this pantry staple.

While pasta undoubtedly hits the weekly menu rotation in many Aussie households (spag bol, anyone?), sometimes you just need to enjoy a dish made by a pro. So, next time you are craving a big Italian bowl, here’s where to find the best pasta in the Sutherland Shire.

Where To Find The Best Pasta In The Sutherland Shire

Giro Osteria, Cronulla

Giro Osteria

Start with Giro’s Osteria famous Apple Martini before moving onto the main event: a share-style menu packed with authentic Italian antipasti, fish, meat and, of course, pasta. Centred in a cosy interior around an open kitchen where you can see the masters at work, Giro’s enjoys a prime location on Cronulla’s shoreline. Scout tip: Giro says cheers to the weekend with a $20 pasta special every Thursday evening. Bookings recommended.

Scout’s picks:

  • Pasta Cacio e Pepe

  • Pasta Con Ragu

  • Gnocchi Napoletana

Bobbys, Cronulla

Bobby’s

Mediterranean, Euro-style dining right here in the heart of our beachside ‘burb, it really doesn’t get much better than Bobby’s. Bobby’s has quickly climbed the foodie ladder since it landed in late 2023, cementing itself as a destination for lovers of seafood, terracotta tones and relaxed sophistication. And we haven’t even mentioned the food yet! Among a line up of fresh ceviche, charred broccolini, and MBS2+ ribeye sit a few pasta dishes well worth a look-in.

Scout’s pick:

  • Mafalde Pork Ragu

Fior, Gymea

Fior

Settling into the site that once held Gymea’s Caruso’s is Fior, the brainchild of the team behind Jane and Arthur. Designed to bring together the ease of Australian dining with authentic Italian cuisine, Fior is a chic, architect-designed restaurant boasting a menu worth salivating over. It begins with over 18 antipasti dishes before progressing to mains and…pasta (with gluten free options for all our GF friends!).

Scout’s picks:

  • Mafalde Corte

  • Prosciutto Di Parma Spaghetti

Pinos, Cronulla

Pino’s

Pino’s Vino e Cucina is the new Italian stallion in town, expanding its incredibly popular restaurant in Alexandra to Cronulla, in the vine-covered site that was previously home to 1908. A heartfelt tribute to restauranteur Matteo Margiotta’s love of Puglia and a childhood spent in Rome, Pino’s is all about honouring Cronulla’s seaside location with Italian fare. Created by Cristiano Patacca, the seasonal menu features lots of seafood alongside rich, authentic dishes, as well as bar bites and build-your-own charcuterie platters.

Scout’s picks:

  • Pici Slow Cooked Duck Ragu

  • Cacio e Pepe

Salt Meats Cheese, Cronulla

Salt Meats Cheese

A local staple housed in a local heritage icon, Salt Meats Cheese is a blend of quintessential Australian coastline and the Amalfi Coast. Pizza, pasta, antipasti, desserts and cocktails lead the way on the menu, which services both lunch and dinner. Book a sunny outdoor table to really soak up the atmosphere and live out the Italian dream - but a bit closer to home.

Scout’s picks:

  • Lamb Ragu Parpadelle with Pecorino Toscano

  • Crab Tagliolini with Zucchini, Cherry Tomatoes and Chilli

Jensens, Kareela

Jensens

Modern Australian cuisine forms the foundation of Jensen’s, a relaxed, light and chic restaurant in Kareela. While an in-house cocktail connoisseur mixes up crafty combinations, the chefs are hard at work in the kitchen preparing the dishes loved and lauded by many Shire-siders. The team’s Fried Gnocchi entree is incredibly popular, and Wild Mushroom, Thyme and Cheese Tortellini has earned a permanent spot on the menu.

Scout’s pick:

  • Check out the weekly pasta special!

Blackwoods, Cronulla

Blackwood

Spacious interiors, plenty of outdoor seating, good times, and casual dining are the cornerstones of Blackwood, a creation by three Shire locals. Open from 7:00am until 3:00pm, Blackwood serves breakfast, coffee, breakfast cocktails and fresh lunch creations, including a Beef Ragu Pasta served with gremolata and shaved pecorino that is, simply, to die for. Pair with a freshly squeezed juice or a Breakfast Club Martini because, well, why not?

Scout’s pick:

  • Beef Ragu Pasta

Destination Italia, Caringbah

Destination Italia

Established in 2024 by Giovanni and Simona, Destination Italia is a food truck based in Caringbah born of a love of Italian food. Giovanni himself is Italian born and bred, and has spent the last 10 years (and counting) mastering the art of the country’s cuisine. The menu features a range of weekly specials as well as wood-fired and fried pizza, antipasti, dessert and some of the best pasta.
