Not only was I excited for plump, fresh skin, but I'll take any excuse for a bit of ‘me time’.
We know what you’re thinking. With the words ‘skin’ and ‘needling’ in the same sentence, the treatment sounds quite terrifying but, in actual fact, it was anything but. What is Skin Needling?
Skin Needling involves using a small pen-like apparatus, which glides across your face in a gentle sweeping motion. Stella says,
“The micro-sized needles pierce the upper dermal layer using a spring-loaded system, kick-starting your body’s wound healing response and simultaneously stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. This has the effect of filling out wrinkles and improving the thickness and transparency of your epidermis.”
Put simply, the treatment promotes skin cell renewal by creating microscopic holes which trigger the body’s natural wound-healing response. This results in brand new, collagen-packed skin cells. So, what are the benefits of this?
“The treatment significantly improves the appearance of wrinkles, sun damage and other signs of aging skin, as well as acne scars and stretch marks. A quick guide through the treatment
The treatment began with a thorough run-through of the entire procedure and what to expect. We chatted about my skin concerns and for me that was enlarged pores, congestion and general dullness of the skin.
First up, numbing cream! My face was cleansed and then a numbing agent was applied. This felt completely bizarre. Your lips are first to go and your skin closely follows. The numbing process took approximately 40 minutes to take effect but I took full advantage of a quiet room and dazzling water views, sipping on my tea as time passed by.
Now for the treatment! Stella did another quick run-through, showing me what the skin needle looked like and then we began. As the needle worked its way across my face, I could only feel a very gentle pressure. In areas that were more sensitive such as around the eye area and my nose, there was a slight tingle, but throughout the entire process I experienced next to no pain.
A final treatment serum was then applied to my skin and voila - the treatment was done!
The down time: what to expect post-treatment
Immediately after the treatment my skin was red and flushed. The redness faded by night and was completely gone the next morning.
I was advised to steer clear of my normal skin care routine and certainly not wear makeup - for 48 hours at least. So a word of advice: don’t book this treatment close to any special events. Stella supplied me with two different serums to apply over the coming days. Your skin can get quite dry so be sure to lather these on!
Nothing feels better than receiving a compliment from a stranger. ‘I love your eyes’ or ‘you smell great’ are strong contenders but, ‘your skin looks amazing’ takes the crown.
The results
As someone who has a regimented skin care routine, I was beyond impressed with how my skin reacted to the treatment. Stella said the best results will come after approximately 4 weeks, allowing the skin enough time to regenerate and boy was she right! Now over 4 weeks later, my skin feels hydrated, plump and fresh. My skin tone has evened out and I can see a significant reduction in pore size.
